11. Your Petitioners have reason to believe that the prosperity of the Colony has been from year to year increasing and the revenue of the present year will far exceed that of any proceding year and will represent a sum much in excess of the estimated amount.

12. Your Petitioners carnestly pray that the principle upon which their English and/or American brother-officers in the Service were granted Exchange Compensation may, similarly, be made consistently to extend to them,

13. Your Petitioners believe that compensation has been granted to persons in like positions to themselves employed in the Government Offices in Ceylon by reason of the fall in Exchange.

14. And lastly, your Petitioners desire to state that this Petition has been drawn up with the expressed consent of His Excellency the Governor Sir WILLIAM ROBINSON, K.C.M.6.

Your Petitioners therefore most humbly pray that in view of

the circumstances herembefore set forth you may be pleased to grant to your Petitioners compensation for the hardship sustained by them by reason of the dimition in the purcinasing power of their earnings as a result of the fall in Exchange.
